💥
Everyone who is now confidently lifting weights in the gym once started with zero experience. Yes, really. Maybe with trembling legs and a water bottle in hand – just like me last week.
In this blog, I'll take you through my first experience at the gym. No bragging, no perfect photos, just honest. Because if you're hesitating to start, I hope this gives you that little push.
🤯 First impression: exciting, but less scary than you think
My first thought when I walked in?
"What am I actually doing here?"
People everywhere who clearly already have a routine. Large mirrors. Heavy weights. But within 10 minutes I noticed: no one really pays attention to you. Everyone is focused on their own workout. That was an immediate relief.
🏋️♀️ My first workout
I kept it simple. No complicated equipment or crazy combinations. The focus was on starting calmly and really feeling what my body is doing.
Workout:
-
10 minutes warm-up (treadmill)
-
Bodyweight squats (3 sets of 12 reps)
-
Chest press machine (light weight, 3 sets of 10)
-
Lat pulldown (3 sets of 10)
-
Rowing machine (3 sets of 10)
-
10 minutes cooling-down cycling
And no, I couldn’t walk down the stairs normally afterwards. But that’s part of it. 😅
✅ 5 things I learned immediately:
-
Start with the basics – You don’t have to understand everything right away.
-
No one judges you – Really. Everyone was once a beginner.
-
Focus on your form, not the weight – You want to avoid injuries.
-
Hydrate, even if it seems obvious – Believe me, you need that water.
-
Put on a nice playlist – Music = motivation x10.
🎯 Why you should just go too
If you’re reading this and still hesitating: just start. Even if it’s only one day a week. You don’t have to be fit to go to the gym – you go to the gym to get fit.
You don’t need goals like “lose 10 kilos” or “get muscular in 3 months.” Start with the goal to feel better, both physically and mentally. The rest will follow naturally.
