Cutting, or drying out, means losing fat while preserving as much muscle mass as possible. The foundation is not a supplement: it is a sustainable calorie deficit, continuing to train hard, getting enough protein, and sleeping well. Hany Rambod, coach of 25 Olympia champions and creator of FST-7, puts it this way: cutting is not about training less intensely, but about eating smarter (source: Evogen Nutrition). Supplements can make it easier to stick to that plan. These are the products athletes use most often during a cut, and what you can expect from them.
1. Protein
When you are in a calorie deficit, you want to get enough protein. Protein contributes to the maintenance of muscle mass. A whey isolate provides plenty of protein with few extra calories. Evogen Isoject provides 25 g of protein per scoop. Evogen Evofusion combines multiple protein sources, with 24 g of protein per serving. Compare them in Proteins.
2. Creatine
You can continue using creatine during a cut. Creatine increases physical performance during successive bursts of short-term, high-intensity physical exercise, with a daily intake of 3 grams. Evogen Creatine Monohydrate provides 5 g per serving.
3. Amino acids during training
Many athletes drink an EAA product during long sessions. Evogen Amino K.E.M. provides 8,500 mg of EAAs and BCAAs per serving. No health claims are permitted for individual amino acids in the EU, so we do not promise any effect from them.
4. L-carnitine and formulas with or without caffeine
Evogen offers L-carnitine in four varieties: Carnigen, Carnigen Natural, and Carnigen Liquid without caffeine, and Carnigen Plus with 100 mg of caffeine. Lipocide IR contains caffeine, among other ingredients; use it for a maximum of 4 weeks, followed by a 4-week break, and do not combine it with Carnigen Plus. No health claims are permitted for L-carnitine in the EU. See everything at a glance in Weight Loss.
5. Caffeine: count everything
Pre-workout, fat burner, coffee: it all adds up. For healthy adults, the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) considers a single dose of up to 200 mg and up to 400 mg per day from all sources combined to present no safety concerns. Prefer to train without caffeine? Take a look at Pre Workout.
How to put it together
- Foundation: enough protein and daily creatine.
- Long sessions: amino acids during training.
- Want a cutting formula: first decide whether you want caffeine, and then choose.
