Abductor machines isolate the glutes, but due to size differences among various types of abductor machines, the individual must make adjustments to get resistance through the full range of motion.

Bring the knees as close together as possible while maintaining tension. This means you must not let the weight drop. Use the abductor as an FST-7 preload at the start of your glute training.
