FST-7 TIP: Hany's thoughts on massage guns? Active therapy?

FST-7 TIP: Hany's gedachten over massagepistolen? Actieve therapie?

In this video, legendary 24-time Olympia-winning coach Hany Rambod discusses the rise of active therapy (active recovery therapy) in the world of sports. These days, you see athletes in almost every gym using foam rollers and massage guns (such as the Theragun). Rambod explains the physiological value of these tools, why they never replace a full deep tissue massage (deep tissue massage), and how he applies Active Release Techniques (ART) with his elite athletes to eliminate acute muscle knots.

Massage Guns versus Foam Rolling: Supplement, Not Replacement

Using a massage gun - even between sets on the gym floor - has become a popular trend. Rambod is very clear about its effectiveness:

  • It works, but has limitations: Massage guns definitely help loosen tissue and stimulate blood flow, but they are not a replacement for other recovery methods. They are an addition ("an addition to").
  • The recovery hierarchy: According to Rambod, a manual, deep tissue massage from a professional therapist is still superior. However, if you want to apply active therapy on your own, he considers foam rolling the very best and most effective method you can use on yourself.

Countering Acute Muscle Knots with Active Release (ART)

During intense training sessions, muscle tissue can suddenly become completely locked up physiologically ("everything tightens up"). This often happens in the shoulder girdle, such as in the trapezius (trapezius), the rhomboid muscle (rhomboid), or the round muscles of the arm (teres major/minor).

Rambod shares a practical experience in which an athlete immediately locked up in his back during mild lateral raises (raises). This can be a cumulative effect of a workout from the previous day. To force the muscle to relax acutely, Rambod applies the principles of Active Release:

  1. Pressure on the Trigger Point: The coach manually applies targeted, deep pressure to the active physiological trigger point - sometimes by literally driving his elbow deep into the rhomboid or lower trapezius.
  2. Active Movement Under Tension: While steadily increasing the pressure on the muscle knot, the athlete must slowly and actively move the arm through its natural range of motion (for example, by raising the arm and simulating a pullover movement).

This biomechanical process stretches and untangles the locked-up muscle fibers under direct pressure. Rambod does not mince words: "It is extremely painful, really painful, but it is one of those things that simply works physiologically."

Supporting Muscle Physiology with Evogen Nutrition

Manually or mechanically loosening muscle tissue is an external stimulus that reduces muscle tone. To support your muscle cells and nervous system from within while recovering from deep physiological stress, a coordinated nutritional strategy is essential. The elite sports formulas from Evogen Nutrition provide the perfect biological synergy:

  • Intra-Workout Muscle Protection: Drink Evogen Amino K.E.M. during your sets to continuously saturate your cells with all 9 essential amino acids (EAAs). This keeps nitrogen balance positive and blocks acute proteolysis (muscle breakdown) on the gym floor.
  • Post-Workout Volumization & Cortisol Drop: Immediately after your workout, combine the ultra-pure whey isolate Evogen IsoJect with Evogen Cell K.E.M. PR. While the patented IGNITOR™ enzyme technology in Evogen IsoJect delivers an extremely rapid influx of amino acids for tissue repair, the Sensoril® in Evogen Cell K.E.M. PR acutely lowers the stress hormone cortisol to immediately push your body into the anabolic recovery phase. And when you need additional calorie support during a heavy bulking phase to build lean mass, our gainer Evogen Super Huge offers the ultimate solution.
